Dighton Closes 27-Article Special Town Meeting Warrant
Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Dighton Select Board closes a 27-article special town meeting warrant, including a contested police chief bylaw change. Former Selectman Nancy Gula urged the board to strip a "strong police chief" article from the warrant, arguing it cedes the board's executive authority: "You are the elected executive board. You were put in office to make these kinds of decisions." Town Administrator Ralph said members can still vote article by article, including striking it, at the October 14 meeting.
Separately, the Board of Assessors approved a $30,000 contract for attorney David Klebenhoff to fight a commercial tax case at the Appellate Tax Board, contingent on funding, calling the case "worth millions of dollars." The board also accepted the Pope Squash land donation for passive conservation, adopted the state's consolidated solar permitting process, appointed Paul Silvia to the Cemetery Commission, and approved warrants totaling $643,288.95.
