Rehoboth Sets Nov. 17 Vote On Data Centers, CPC Hike
Select Board · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Rehoboth warns PFAS cleanup, already $1.4 million, has no state relief in sight. Town officials told the Select Board the contamination, tied to firefighting foam at the central fire station, now requires monitoring roughly 35 to 37 nearby wells, with Massachusetts offering cleanup aid only to towns with a public water supply, which Rehoboth lacks. "We're on an island of ourselves," the town administrator said.
The board opened the warrant for a November 17 Special Town Meeting that will include a proposed data-center ban and a Community Preservation Committee request to raise the town's surcharge from 1 percent to 3 percent, potentially tripling annual CPC revenue to roughly $1.5 million. Separately, the Planning Board negotiated a 200-acre, 207-unit Chapter 40B proposal down to a roughly 75-lot conventional subdivision. The board also approved a National Grid/Verizon pole petition 4-0 and updated Fire Department rules under Chief Peter Graves.
