Planning Board Advances Fire Tank Rule, Spa Site Plan
Planning Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Rehoboth planning board moves to double fire tank size and advances a Winthrop Street spa project. The board voted unanimously to raise the town's required underground fire-suppression tank from 10,000 to 20,000 gallons at the fire chief's request, who said crews "will show up to a house fire with 13,500 gallons if every truck shows up." Engineer Mark Moriano of Oak Hill Engineering presented a 5,600-square-foot wellness spa for owner Trisha Ferreira at 48 Winthrop Street, sent to third-party review by Fuss & O'Neill after resident Oscar Coet raised runoff and well-water concerns. Board member Ed flagged liability and warranty language in Fuss & O'Neill's own on-call contract and will bring it to town counsel.
Members also weighed landowner Ralph Zuckerberg's choice between a 206-unit 40B project and a roughly 75-lot subdivision near the high school, and learned Hillside Country Club faces an October 1 foreclosure auction with a $4,050,000 mortgage and no town right of first refusal.
