Board of Health Grants Fire Station Septic Variance
Board of Health · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Easton Board of Health approves a septic variance for the new Main Street fire station after grading left the system a foot too deep. Engineers Melissa Peck and Brian McCusker of Weston & Sampson told the board the system reached 57 inches, exceeding the 36-inch limit for new construction, after a contractor graded the slope more gently than designed to reduce erosion. One board member questioned granting the exception after the building was already partially occupied, saying "my concern obviously is the optics," but found no timing restriction after reading the Title V regulation aloud.
The board voted 2-0, with Taryn Buehler among those present, to approve the variance. Separately, the board heard that 305 Turnpike Street's exposed water pipes are expected to be buried before Thanksgiving, and that eviction proceedings there have produced notices to quit within the past two weeks.
