Commission sets hearing on gazebo order amendment
Conservation · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Somerset Conservation Commission clears a gazebo project without requiring a new state permit filing. Members voted unanimously to schedule a September 21 hearing on an amendment to an existing order of conditions, DEP File 070-0560, covering a 24-by-12-foot prefabricated gazebo in the Spring Point area. A commission member identified only as Brian pressed a project presenter on how the structure would be anchored, asking "are they anchoring it with sun tubes?" after the team shifted the gazebo's planned location closer to the parking area to preserve neighbors' sightlines and cleared poison ivy from the site.
The presenter said a new notice of intent was not warranted given the limited added disturbance, telling members "that's not my decision, that's yours." Abutter notices went out ahead of the hearing, excluding one adjacent town-owned parcel, lot 206.
